Mommy Makeover Philadelphia
A mommy makeover combines breast enhancement and body contouring to address the unwanted effects of childbirth. If you’re considering a mommy makeover in Philadelphia, acclaimed double-board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ryan Hoffman can help you regain the body you had before pregnancy with this package of plastic surgery procedures.
A typical mommy makeover includes a tummy tuck with breast augmentation or breast lift. Some procedures will involve liposuction as well. These cosmetic procedures can recontour areas of the body that experienced changes during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.
When do you choose a Mommy Makeover?
At your initial consultation, Dr. Hoffman will review your medical history to determine if a mommy makeover is suitable for you. Candidates for a mommy makeover should be healthy and have an interest in correcting loose tissue on the tummy, deflated or drooping breasts, stretched nipples or areolas, and persistent areas of body fat.
It is recommended that you are not planning any additional pregnancies, have finished breastfeeding and have reached a stable weight before the surgery.
During your consultation, you can look over our mommy makeover before and after photos, ask questions about the procedure, and learn more about mommy makeover recovery.
Your Mommy Makeover
On your surgery day, your incision locations will be marked by Dr. Hoffman. General or local anesthesia with IV sedation will be administered. The doctor then performs the surgical procedures that you and the doctor have chosen: usually a tummy tuck, breast augmentation/breast lift, and liposuction.
To restore breast volume, a breast augmentation may be recomended as part of your mommy makeover. Dr. Hoffman offers both saline and silicone implants, as well as breast augmentation with fat grafting.
Breast augmentation typically requires two small incisions – around the nipple, near the underarm, or beneath the breast – to allow insertion of the implant. The implants can be placed above or below the chest muscles.
Mastopexy (or a breast lift) is a procedure that helps to reshape the breast to a more youthful contour while lifting and repositions the areolas. To help improve the deflated look or excess skin in the breast area, the breast lift may be added to your mommy makeover.
When performed on patient who have lost breast volume usually from breastfeeding in this case, this procedure is usually combined with breast augmentation (enlargement) to better fill the empty space vacated by the volume loss. This combination is known as a breast lift with implants, or augmentation mastopexy.
Pregnancy often causes stretching of the abdominal muscles and skin. After one or more pregnancies, these effects can be significant and troubling for a mom.
Stubborn fat deposits can appear when your body weight is constantly changing. Some women are bothered by fat in the thighs or buttocks, while others tend to accumulate fat in the arms or upper body. Using liposuction, a proven procedure for targeted fat removal, Dr. Hoffman can address these problem areas to help you slim down.
After your procedure
A mommy makeover can be completed in a single day or you may choose to have it done in a series performed weeks or months apart. Dr. Hoffman can help you with these details.
For the best mommy makeover results, it will be important to follow Dr. Hoffman’s post-surgical care instructions diligently. A combined procedure of breast and body contouring can involve more downtime than a single procedure. You will probably need some help at home for about one week after surgery, while complete recovery requires several weeks. Final results of your mommy makeover will appear in about six months to a year.

Mommy Makeover Q&A
What exactly is a mommy makeover?
Answer: A mommy makeover is a combination of different surgical procedures that typically are requested by women who have had children. It is performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon and involves procedures done to both the breasts and abdomen.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause negative appearances of the breasts due to changes in volume. The abdomen can have stretch marks, extra skin, or poor c-section scars. Pregnancy may also cause a separation of the abdominal muscles (diastasis), resulting in a persistent lower abdominal bulge. Despite diet and exercise, these issues do not improve on their own and require surgical intervention.
A mommy makeover involves the combination of an abdominal procedure and a breast procedure. Usually the breasts are augmented, lifted, and/or reduced. The breast procedures may include the following procedure(s): breast lift (mastopexy), breast reduction (mammoplasty), breast augmentation, and/or fat grafting to the breasts.
The abdominal procedure involves abdominoplasty (a full tummy tuck, a mini tummy tuck, or a modified tummy tuck) and liposuction. The surgical time is less when the procedures are done in conjunction with one another. In your consultation, your surgeon will determine which procedures are most appropriate for you.
The recovery time is about 2 weeks, as opposed to 2 weeks and another 2 weeks of recovery when the procedures are separated.
Should I stay in the hospital overnight after a mommy makeover?
Answer: Most young and healthy moms can go home the same day following a mommy makeover surgery, provided that there were no unforeseen circumstances during surgery. However, if the patient does not have adequate amount of help at home, is a new mother, or feels that she will not get enough rest/downtime the night and day following surgery, then I recommend an overnight stay.
An overnight stay can either be in the hospital (with a cosmetic price) or arranged to be in a hotel with a night nurse. These accommodations allow a mom to recuperate rather than having to take care of a household on her first postoperative day.
I’m having a mommy makeover. Will I be able to wear a bikini in 2 months?
Answer: Most early results are seen by 3 months. 2 months may be a little early to get into a bikini. Swelling and scarring are settling still at 2 months and you may not be completely bikini ready then. Some patients require more surgery and will require longer healing, other patients, have less surgery and can maybe pull off a bikini in 2 months. Talk with Dr. Hoffman and let him know you timetable and goals and we can work together to achieve them.
